ML Systems Built Around Real Business Decisions
We build machine learning systems for Manchester and UK businesses that need prediction, classification, document intelligence, and decision support delivered in a way operations teams can actually use.
ML Solutions We Deliver
We focus on useful ML systems with a clear operating model, not speculative model work with no route into production.
Forecasting & Demand Models
Predict revenue, demand, inventory pressure, and operational bottlenecks using historical data, seasonality, and business-specific signals.
Document Intelligence
Extract structured data from messy documents, classify content, and route files intelligently across legal, finance, and operations workflows.
Decision Support Models
Scoring systems for lead quality, churn risk, case prioritisation, fraud signals, or workflow triage where fast business decisions matter.
Custom ML Pipelines
Data preparation, feature engineering, model evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining workflows tailored to your actual operating environment.
How We Approach Delivery
Strong ML work is a systems problem as much as a modelling problem. We design for reliability, adoption, and measurable impact.
Measured Against Business KPIs
We define model success in business terms first, not just abstract accuracy metrics.
Controlled Production Rollout
Models are deployed with observability, safeguards, fallback logic, and human override where needed.
Operational Integration
We connect models into your reporting, workflows, and products so they are actually used in daily operations.
Human-in-the-Loop Where Appropriate
For high-stakes decisions, we design review checkpoints rather than pretending full automation is always the right answer.
What Good ML Looks Like In Practice
It should improve a repeated decision, run against dependable data, expose its performance clearly, and slot into an operational workflow that people trust.
Clear baseline measurement before any model work starts
Data-quality checks and feature logic aligned to the business problem
Evaluation against precision, recall, forecast error, or business-specific metrics
Deployment path with alerts, retraining triggers, and sensible fallbacks
Typical ML Use Cases
- Lead scoring and sales prioritisation
- Demand forecasting and planning support
- Document classification and extraction
- Anomaly detection and operational exception handling
- Risk scoring and business decision support
Who Machine Learning Systems Are For
Machine learning earns its keep when a business makes the same kind of decision hundreds or thousands of times, keeps a record of how those decisions turned out, and loses money when they are made slowly or inconsistently. Distributors deciding how much stock to hold, professional services teams triaging inbound work and retailers deciding which customers to contact next all fit that description.
You do not need a data science team to start. Our Manchester studio turns the data you already collect into a system that improves one specific decision, then puts it in the tool your staff already use, so nobody has to learn a new screen to benefit from it.
When it is not the right fit: If the decision is rare, the rules are already clear, or the data is a few hundred rows in a spreadsheet, a well-designed automation or a large language model prompt is usually cheaper and more reliable than a trained model. We will tell you that during scoping rather than sell you a model you do not need.
You have history to learn from
Orders, tickets, applications, invoices or documents with a known outcome attached. Without outcomes there is nothing for a model to learn from.
The decision repeats at volume
Forecasting weekly demand, scoring every new lead, classifying every incoming document. One-off judgements rarely justify a model.
Errors have a visible cost
Overstock, missed renewals, slow case handling or wasted sales time give us a baseline to beat and a way to prove whether the system is working.
Someone owns the workflow
A named person who will use the output day to day. Models without an owner tend to drift quietly until someone switches them off.
Our ML Delivery Process
ML work follows the same staged path as our other production AI projects: a scoping call, a fixed discovery sprint, then a fixed-scope build. You see evidence at each stage before you commit to the next.
- 01
Decision and baseline
We define the decision being improved, who acts on it and how it is made today, then measure the current error rate or cost so the model has a real number to beat.
- 02
Data audit
We profile what you hold: coverage, gaps, leakage risks, how outcomes are recorded and whether the history still reflects how the business works now.
- 03
Feasibility spike
A quick, honest model tested on data it has never seen. If it cannot clearly beat the baseline here, we stop or change approach before any significant build cost is committed.
- 04
Production build
Data pipelines, feature logic, training, evaluation reports and an API or batch job that delivers predictions into the tool your team already uses.
- 05
Controlled rollout
Shadow mode first: the model runs alongside the current process so you can compare its calls with your team's. Then a gradual switch-over, with human override kept in place.
- 06
Monitoring and retraining
Drift alerts, performance reporting and a documented retraining routine, so accuracy does not quietly decay as customers, products and seasons change.
What Shapes the Cost of an ML Project
ML projects use our standard model: a fixed-price discovery sprint, a fixed-scope build, and an optional monthly partnership for ongoing monitoring and improvement. Model and hosting costs are billed at cost on your own accounts. The build price depends mainly on these factors.
See our AI development pricing- Data readiness
- Clean, joined data with recorded outcomes is quick to work with. Data spread across exports, spreadsheets and legacy systems needs pipeline work before any modelling starts.
- Number of decisions modelled
- One forecast or one scoring model is a focused build. Several related models sharing a pipeline cost more, but less than building each separately.
- Delivery surface
- A scheduled batch file is simpler than a real-time API wired into your CRM, ERP or customer-facing product.
- Explainability and governance
- Decisions affecting customers, credit or employment need explanation, audit logs and review steps, which add design and testing time.
How We Judge Whether a Model Works
We do not promise an accuracy figure before we have seen your data, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What a model can achieve depends on how predictive your history is, and that is what the discovery sprint is there to establish.
We can tell you how success is judged. A model is compared against the baseline measured at the start, on data it has never seen, and reported in business terms. If the improvement is not worth the running cost, the honest recommendation is to stop, and we would rather say so in discovery than halfway through a build. For Manchester businesses starting out, a narrow win is usually the best first step: one forecast that planners trust, or one triage model that sorts the inbox before anyone opens it.
- Error against the pre-project baseline, on held-out data
- Time saved per decision or per document
- Share of predictions accepted versus overridden by staff
- Drift in input data and prediction quality over time
- Cost of running the model against the value of the decisions it improves

Machine learning rarely works alone. These services often sit alongside an ML build, and CryptoPilot shows how we approach ensemble models and walk-forward testing in a product we built ourselves.
ML Systems FAQs
Common questions from businesses considering machine learning beyond the prototype stage.
A model on its own is not a useful business system. An ML system includes the data pipeline, evaluation logic, deployment path, monitoring, retraining plan, and the workflow where people actually use the output. That is the part most teams underestimate.
The strongest fit is where you already have meaningful historical data and recurring decisions that could be improved with prediction or classification. That includes demand forecasting, lead scoring, document processing, anomaly detection, and prioritisation workflows.
Yes. We can work with SQL databases, warehouse exports, APIs, CSV-based operational data, and existing dashboards or internal tools. We design around the data you really have, not the perfect dataset you wish existed.
We start by quantifying the decision being improved, the frequency of that decision, the likely quality of available data, and the expected operational value. If the economics or data quality are weak, we will say so early rather than force an ML build where simpler automation would do.
No. We can build focused ML systems for specific workflows as well as broader internal platforms. The right scope depends on the value of the use case, the amount of available data, and how much internal adoption you need.
There is no single number. As a rule of thumb you want hundreds of examples of each outcome you care about, ideally spanning a full business cycle so seasonality is visible. The data audit tells you whether you are there yet. If you are not, better data capture can be set up now so you are ready later.
For reading and extracting from unstructured text, often yes, and the two are frequently combined. For numeric forecasting and scoring on structured history, a conventional trained model is usually cheaper, faster and easier to explain. We choose per problem, not per trend.
It will, sometimes. That is why we design confidence thresholds, human review for borderline cases and override logging, so mistakes are caught and fed back into retraining rather than repeated.
We work to UK GDPR: use only the data the model needs, pseudonymise where it does not need identities, and keep a clear record of what data trains which model. Where a decision has a significant effect on a person, we build in human review from the start.
